This place is very near my work and I have been there a couple of times now. The small restaurant is located near London Bridge in the heart of Borough Market – one of the upscale food markets in the city. There are actually a number of Feng Sushi restaurants in London – check their website for more information.

Sushi on acid. As good as it gets!
Well, actually. That was all Sondre told us. So since this review was a bit short I have interpreted his grades and added some information and images from their website:
“A passion, an entire philosophy, that moves traditional Kyoto cuisine into the modern age. Leave the world you know behind. As the only Kyoto style restaurant in the UK, the unique Umu experience invites guests into a haven of tranquitlity, where enlightened design, artfully presented cuisine and sublime service redefine the dining experience.”

There are two Taro restaurants in London and both are located near China Town (one in Old Compton Street and the other one in Brewer Street). This time we went out for food for one of my housemate’s birthday and we opted for the Old Compton Street branch. The restaurant is spacious, has a simple but comfortable interior and because of its location in Soho you get a very diverse clientele there.

Moshi Moshi is a conveyor-belt Japanese restaurant conveniently located at Liverpool Station, and thus attracts a mixed crowd of City businessmen and travellers who prefer their fast food served on a slab of rice instead of between hamburger buns.

Café Japan was another recommendation by a (Japanese!) friend. The restaurant is located close to Golders Green tube station (Northern Line) and, as life goes sometimes, has a fellow sushi competitor right next door. We stuck to our original plan though and discovered that Café Japan, like Asakusa, is a small family run restaurant with a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere rather than the fancy interior often found in central London places. The many award certificates on the wall and the professional chefs busying themselves behind the sushi bar added to the comfort. The place was busy when we arrive and although it did quieten down I would still recommend making a reservation.

This restaurant, located in North London’s Camden Town, was long recommended to me by a friend and one warm day after work I jumped on the Northern Line and went up to Mornington Crescent to meet my friend and to check out this tip. One thing I instantly liked about the place was that it is not your standard stylish, hip and trendy sushi place with minimalistic interior and posh menus but a small (and a little shabby) family run restaurant. I was also amazed by the tight door they operated: I don’t recommend going there without a reservation.

Updated August 2007: “Sad to say that Ikkyu closed on the 27th July 2007. Only found out this evening after i trekking from soho in the pouring rain. More words on this fantastic place very soon. IKKYU R.I.P. ”
Ikkyu is one of the best-kept secrets of the London sushi scene. If you’re not a fan of the Yo! Sushi-style conveyor belt restaurants, head to this little family-run restaurant frequented by Japanese expats.

It is a couple of years ago (2005), but this guy set his mind to covering all of London’s sushi restaurants in zone 1. Now that is impressive! It seems to last him only a couple of months, but in that time he covered a whole bunch. I wonder what happened?
Nol and the Quest for Sushi is an adventure of epic proportions inwhich I will eat in every sushi restaurant in London zone 1 by the end of the year. That’s nine months. This is London. That’s a lot of restaurants.
As Master Yoda says “Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.”
London is suppose to have some of the best sushi restaurants outside of Japan. I have been to London many times, but never while I was doing this website, so until I go there again I wont have any reviews of London Sushi restaurants. This is where you can help! Send me your review of your favorite restaurant.
In the mean time, here are some pointers to where you can find out where to get your sushi today. It sounds like a wonderfully sushi filled city!
