Le Meo Shushi - Grønland, OsloLe Meo Sushi Restaurant opened late in 2006, and I was thrilled to see a sushi bar opening up right next to my favorite coffee bar in Oslo, Evita. They took a loooong holiday in February, but they finally came back so that I could taste their goods. The restaurant is kind of a weird place. It feels more like a canteen than a restaurant with their plastic table cloths and cheap interior. Not a place for anything but eating and moving on, despite them now also serve beer. The place does not really invite you to hang out for long.

Sushi House - Majorstua, OsloI was very surprised by this place. It looks just like a hole in the wall, not very inviting, but came highly recommended by a friend that knows his sushi. And what a treat it was.

The menu was extensive, and the prices low, so you can pretty much eat all you want for around 200-250. I am not sure if they sell beer or not, but this is is not a place for long, romantic sit-down meals anyway, so the price will stay down because you are probably not going to add alcohol onto the tab. Sushi House is probably great for lunch and quick dinners on the run, though.

Mr Tang1Mr. Tang opened in 2006, and I think it is an ok sushi place. Price and service considered. They serve asian food, so you don’t just get sushi here.

We ordered green tea, miso soup, the starter platter of sashimi, tempura maki, salmon maki, spicy tuna maki. The presentation of the food was ok. The miso soup was very tasty and had seafood in it. The sashimi was good. I got shrimps, escobar, halibut and salmon. Their rice was not just sticky, it was almost mushy. The ura maki had sesame seeds - which I like, but the rice was in general not that good. Too sweet, and way too sticky. Something for them to work on.

Sushi & Wok - Majorstuen, OsloSushi to Wok or Sushi and Wok is a very nice sushi place. I do agree with the people saying that their rice is a bit too mushy and sweet, but in general - this is sushi I can eat a lot. Their rolls are usually very good, their tempura shrimp crunchy. It is the only place I know where they have guru guru sushi in Oslo, where you sit around a conveyor belt and help yourself to plates of sushi of your liking.

Alex Sushi - Solli plass, Oslo

(Temporary review)

This is considered to be one of the best sushi places in Oslo. And it is, but it is a bit too expensive to be able to go there too often. Their menus are always interesting, last time we were there were on Valentines day and they had a special menu for that day.

Again - a place that comes highly recommended. Why, I have no idea.

We went there on a Saturday night and it was pretty much packed with people, so I was expecting a lot. I overheard others telling each other about this place and how good it was for being cheap, but unfortunately I did not get what they were saying after they got their food since I was too upset with my own. It might be that the chef was having a bad fish day. I don’t know. I have been here before since it is about the only place in Oslo that have Korean food, so I know they also have good food, but until I have to, I don’t think I will come back for the sushi.

Nippon Art - Sentrum, Oslo

Updated April 2008: This was one of my favorite sushi places in Oslo. I thought it to be one of the best places to eat downtown, but have to say that my latest experiences have not been that good. Usually their ponzu apetizer is really good, and the amount of different types of fish are one of the best in town.

Nodee - Majorstuen, OsloThis is my favourite sushi place in Oslo. A lot has to do with the atmosphere I think. I just love the place. I really enjoy the sushibar, I could sit there forever, just looking at how they do things. I know they are not japanese, but I still think they are great.

Here it is fun to pick from the menu. They have a lot of different stuff, and also some of the things that resemble things I find in cook books.

House of Sushi - Oslo, MajorstuaI had heard of House of Sushi several times, but never found it. It was kind of hidden in a back street of Majorstua, Ole Vigsgate 15. The building itself was not very inviting, and when entering the shop – unfortunately were not the people working there either. We might have been unlucky with our timing or something, in that the chef just then were on a break, but it was still a weird feeling of being told that you had to wait for your food for at least thirty to fourty minutes while the guy who is supposed to make it is sitting eating right next to you. Well, it made us hungrier I guess.

Bennys is a weird restaurant. If you enter from behind Rådhuset, you seem to be entering a japanese restaurant, if you come from Klingenbergsgata - it’s italian. But from both ends of the restaurant you can order both. It feels like they couldn’t decide what they wanted to be, so they just threw a bunch of things together. Not very successfully on either side.

Lille Asia - Grünerløkka, Oslo

I had heard good things about it, and it looks quite nice. They also have other Asian food here. I have tried their Thai food and were very happy about that.

We were a small group of people so we ordered a whole lot of food. It was almost a treat. Almost.

Update December 2007 - I think this place has closed down. Last time I passed them it looked like it was either gone completely or that they were doing some remodeling. So don’t plan on getting your sushi fix from this place.
