I have heard that Tuesday and Friday are suppose to be the best days for eating sushi and Monday the worst. Here is the reasoning behind it:

I thought I had been around a couple of blocks… but I had never even heard about a sake bomb before I saw it on a discussion board on good places to go sake bombing. It sounds like something you should to try out at some point!

There is a comic book in Japan called (something like) Sushi Chef Kirara’s Job. It’s about a girl brought up by a famous sushi chef after her mother dies when she is young. So she grows up in the sushi shop and learns everything there is to know about the job as a sushi chef and the ways of traditional sushi - old style. So - when the old man gets sick and must close the shop, she reopens it.

Tobiko, or flying fish roe, is the small, usually orange fish eggs that look like caviar. It is widely used in sushi - often as decoration on top of rolls - both for color, taste and crunch. But as an article I found at Chow.com can tell us, it is not exactly fresh from the sea. Tobiko is actually a processed food.

Please avoid this sushi place….. being extremely hungry for a decent fish meal, leaving Norway, famous for its seafood, you are adviced to skip this place and select a pizza instead.
Sad, but necessary.
The sushi is not particularly fresh, thick slices of fish and too much rice on each nigiri piece. This place could have been ideal for Norwegian fish promotion.

Nigiri sushi are always served in pairs to symbolize peace. I did not know that. This is another great tutorial video from VideoJug.com! The nigiri sushi is something I always have a hard time with. They always just end up looking a bit sad, and never shiny and firm (and similar) like these ones. Need to spend an evening just practicing… Well enjoy! I am hungry now.
Just a cute video of talking sushi pieces. Subtitled (weirdly) in German.

Sushi restaurants are doing good on the “50 Most Recommended Restaurants in North America and Europe”-list that was sent to me the other day. This list is based on a survey of some of the world’s most passionate diners. If you want to contact them or participate, you can do so by sending an e-mail to: info@opinionatedabout.com

Ahh. Of course - we knew it! Our yellow friends Homer and his family are sushi eaters. Homer maybe not a huge fan after this episode, but he is a gutsy one. He tries out Fugu! This happens in the episode “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish”. The plot that leads to disaster (as usual…) is as follows:
Bored with having meatloaf for dinner, Lisa suggests that the family, instead of having pork chops the next night, go to the new sushi bar, “The Happy Sumo”. Homer reluctantly accepts, and the family drives to the restaurant. When they arrive, Homer starts by ordering a few things, but when he discovers that “this fish is delish!”, he eats everything on the menu, including a type of sushi called Fugu.
Well, whats the point just talking about it? Why don’t we just watch it

This site has an ambitious project going wanting to list all sushi restaurants in the world! They rely on the participation of its readers to keep the listings complete and up-to-date. They use web-based forms to submit and update information about sushi restaurants, and also to submit peoples opinions and reviews about listed restaurants. They say that the Reference currently lists 3,162 open restaurants at 3,357 different locations! Quite impressive! The site started in 1994, but you can also see that it has some problems keeping it up. Several of the locations in Oslo does not not exist anymore for instance. I will send them an update on this. So - if you are looking for something in your neighborhood or want to update with your info, you should check out this site.

A couple of days ago I met an old friend of mine for sushi. I have known her since elementary school, (we were best friends back in the day) so we like to get together when I am back at home or when she is out where I am now and gossip about old times. So I was back home, and after much discussion and indecision about where to have dinner, we decided to go to Gu Gu Sushi & Roll in Hermosa Beach. She had been there a few times, but this was the first time I have been to Gu Gu Sushi.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city that I soon should visit, and I will try and go by as many good sushi places as possible. We have received one review of Sushi Saiko - the place that several refer to as the best in town so I know which one I will visit first. In addition I have tried to gather some pointers to where you can find out where to get your sushi fill today.

This great tutorial shows how to make sesamy seed salmon and avocado handroll. This way of making sushi is very nice for parties, where you just prepare the ingredients and let your guests add whatever filling they feel like.
Need to invite people for a sushi party soon!
Los Angeles Hiroyuki Urasawa from the Restaurant Urasawa was a sous chef under another famous chef - Masayoshi Takayama. After Masa left for New York, his student Urasawa opened his own place in Beverly Hills.
The Rodeo Drive address has been Urasawa’s sole professional address in the States, but his training reaches back to childhood, where he grew up in the kitchens of his father’s restaurants in Tokyo. He then honed his skills under master chefs in Kyoto before emigrating to join Takayama at Ginza Sushi-ko.
