When going to a conveyor belt or kaiten sushi restaurants, you sometimes are concerned with that you get good and fresh made sushi. You definately don’t want something that has been sitting on that conveyor belt for hours… This is the story of a guy that wanted to solve that issue. When James Allard lived in Japan as a student in the 1990s, he frequented kaiten sushi restaurants. The problem he observed was that dishes stayed on the belt too long, losing freshness and becoming unappetizing.
Here is another video from VideoJug on how to make sushi rice. It’s basic knowledge, but with some good pointers. Enjoy!

Did you know that starting your own sushi bar is only six steps away? And the difficulty of opening a sushi bar is only “moderately challenging”. So - we think you should just go at it!
I found this article on ehow.com that is just funny really. It tells you the six steps on how to open a sushi bar. We might have thought that it would take love for the art of sushi, years of training and sushi chef skills… But no. Not so. eHow reports:
I found this over at Trevor Corsons sushi blog (his blog is really funny actually! Go visit!). It’s a commercial where the French wants to sell you their “French bread car”. German hot dogs, Japanese sushi and Swedish knekkebrød will kill you. Explode on you! Really. Just watch!
Now here is new one - according to Life & Style - Hollywood couple Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo eats sushi not necessary for the food itself, but the effect. They select dishes that are healthy and light and the reason - again according to Life&Style - is that the lighter menu choices are perfect for setting the mood for a steamy evening… Ooohh.
Well. Now we know.
And we knew.

In 1993 Noriko Kuwabara started making sushi clocks. She thought she could just buy small sushi pieces and glue on a sushi tray, but ended up having to make every piece by hand.
We have had several examples of beautifully created bento boxes on Sushi or Death. Here is another one, but this one is not that eatable.
In this beautifully crafted bento box she has seaweed salad with sesame seeds, steamed potstickers and eggrolls, rice with nori flakes and a vegetables (carrots, cucumber, and a lime), four sushi rolls, and in the center a little wasabi and pickled ginger…. I am getting hungry here…

Another Kazari maki-zushi video. This time it is the legendary Ken Kawasumi who makes Anpanman! Just ignore the music… Ahh. The skills!

A sumo wrestler playing sushi soccer - now there is a concept! Kick that maki into the opponents goal using the arrow keys (left/right), the up arrow to grab the ball and jump using space bar. I loose ALL THE TIME! Arrgh.
NB! I realized that this has an auto play on the sound, so I could not have it on the front page. You have to click to open this post to start playing. Click on “2 minutes” to start playing.

I have been playing around with the idea of introducing a “sushi comic” on this site for a while. Because I do picture sushi as being very eloquent and incredibly funny! Really.
Well. While I was searching around to look for other sushi cartoons I found this website I wanted to share. They sell cartoons online, and you can even hire an artist to make you custom made cartoons. When we grow old and wealthy we will do something like that for Sushi or Death, but in the mean time we linger over at their website. You should check them out.

This shows you the essention roll to be able to make - the cucumber maki. If you don’t know how to make this one properly, you are not a (wannabe) sushi chef! Practice makes perfect!
