In the spirit of Halloween, which we also have started celebrating in Norway, I wanted to see if there were a link between sushi and Halloween. As with most things, there were. Here are some great photos I Found on Flickr where someone dressed up as pieces of sushi for Halloween.

I have never tried to eat Fugu. It sounds scary, but I will try it if (when!?) I get the chance. I do love how the blowfish looks though. Today I went to this blog Grow a brain, who very often posts interesting things about sushi. There I found this really beautiful picture of this tiny blowfish above. I think it is absolutely adorable. Blowing up like that is such a cute survival strategy. I wanted to see some more blowfish images. Here are some I found Googling it. Under is as link to the articles where I found these pictures:

War history made funny! Gruesome images of war tend to make a person lose his appetite… But when hamburgers, sushi and chicken kebabs do battle, the result is delicious and hilarious. This video gives you a brief walkthrough on war history. As one of the comments to this video said: “Politics and war take on a whole new flavour!”
I was laughing so hard watching this video!
Ingenious!! Fantastic!

A downloadable sushi game where you get to run your own sushi bar. It even has a cheesy story to it…
“After graduating college, you decide to open your own sushi restaurant rather than get a corporate job, much to your parents’ dismay. Keep your customers happy by preparing their orders with the right ingredients as quickly as possible. In addition to sushi, customers can also order drinks, sauces, and desserts which, if you can keep up, will guarantee happy customers and big tips! In addition, you also must deal with several pests which can annoy your valuable customers.

The weirdest sushi commercial for a sushi bar in Grand Rapids Minnesota. Akasaka Sushi definitely deserves a visit just for showing up good spirits and not taking themselves too seriously. It looks like a fun place to hang out.

I have read that eel is suppose to have an effect on your ability to perform… in bed. In an article on “Natural Aphrodisiacs” I also found that wasabi might have a similar effect:
“Wasabi (Horseradish) — While some people believe that Sushi has aphrodisiacal effects all on its own, my Japanese friends let me in on a little secret. Apparently, that green stuff that comes with it ( Wasabi or horseradish) is what’ll really get your twig and berries ripe and ready. So the next time you go out for sushi, ask for some extra Wasabi; it’s a kick and will make your eyes tear, but you can make your gal’s eyes tear when you take her home and show her Wasaaaaaaabi.”

Ever felt really, really addicted to sushi? Can’t stop thinking about it? Well, I have. And apparently I am not alone. Here is the true confessions of a sushi addict. Luckily I did not turn out to be THAT hooked…
Very, very funny short film!

“Have you been searching for toys with a difference… Would you love to create toys that children would treasure & that will remind them of how much you love them?” This is how Hiromi Hughes tries to sell her beautiful felt sushi. She is a busy mother of two from Melbourne Australia that always have enjoyed art and craft. She has spent many years making her own hand made gifts for friends, family and others. She grew up in Tokyo Japan, but have lived in Australia since 1991.

At the Natsumi restaurant in New York, chef Haru Konagaya has made his own version of soy sauce. It is called Natsumi’s new vinegar, and will probably freak the sushi purists out - since it is actually balsamic vinegar. According to the chef this adds a ginger-like sweetness to soy sauce for dipping sashimi and maki, and he feels so strongly about the combination of raw fish and Italian vinegar that the Theater District eatery has put its own label on an aged import from Acetaia San Giacomo in Campagnola Emilia (100-milliliter bottles are $18).

Frogner Sushi Bar just happened to be there when we needed lunch one Sunday afternoon. And it was that kind of place. Nothing special, but ok sushi to go.
Not quite sure if I would like to have their sashimi menus, because their fish looked quite sad and unappetizing actually. Again - this was on a sunday, so they might look and smell better on a “fresh fish day”…

Tokidoki presents the Supaaa Sushi Race game. You have to go to their website to be able to play the game itself. Here you pick your favorite sushi as your car (!), and then which of the the sushi bars you want as your race track using the arrows on your keyboard. I never even managed to get around the track once, but the I like the music, the graphics and the look of the yakuza guy that comes up when you fail… Surrounded by dancing skeletons and geishas. Funny!

My husbands family lives in LA, so we have been paying close attention to the raging fires the past couple of days. Luckily none of our relatives have been in harms way. It is good to see that this disaster is handled better than what happened in New Orleans. There seems to be a great generosity for wanting to help out. Also so among sushi chefs.
San Jose Mercury News reports that Nobu in Malibu, one of Los Angeles’ most famous restaurants “served a buffet of sushi and seafood as the blaze that burned out 4,500 acres started to die down. Manager Darren Kim said the buffet featured sushi, black cod, sea bass, king crab legs and lobster salad—thousands of dollars worth of quality seafood.”

The Japanese took it home. The winner of the Seven Sushi Samurai contest at the Eat-Japan Sushi Awards 2007 is Masashi Ogata! He represented the Asahizushi restaurant in Miyagi, Japan and won with his dish “Golden Shooting Star”.
“This ambitious dish recreates the exquisite taste and texture of shark’s fin, the traditional culinary speciality of Asashizushi’s homeground, whilst remaining 100% vegetarian. Assembling ingredients such as Japanese seaweed, fruit syrup, avocado and cornflakes (!), this is a truly remarkable culinary feat.” Mmm… Sounds interesting. And surprising. I have never tasted shark fin, but did not think it would taste anything like fruit syrup, avocado and cornflakes…

Just can’t live without it, huh? The sushi pen is suppose to be such a thing… Really - this is just a commercial. But she has compelling reasons to why you should get yourself a “sushi on a pen”.

I have a problem I need your help with. This specific splog (spam blog) or scraper blog is currently using several of the sushi blogs RSS-feeds (sushiordeath.com, sushifaq.com and sushiday.com) to fill his own website with content. He has never asked me for permission to do this. This is an unfortunate part of RSS-publishing I guess.
