Another attempt at re-inventing the wheel and the Japanese bamboo mat in making maki sushi. For the fun of it we pretend to like it, because it is such a silly looking sushi roller machine. It is made by Germans by the designers from studio Osko + Deichmann. It will showcase in June at the Kitchen Ecology Exhibition in Los Angeles.
Here is one celebrity we might not necessarily want among us; Dick Cheney has come out of his man size closet - as a sushi lover… The US News reports:
“Dick Cheney has given up “undisclosed location” as his official address. In fact, as his friends, family, and associates tell us, the former vice president is stepping out and enjoying it. As with his old boss, former President Bush, who’s been photographed taking out the trash, Cheney has embraced the freedom of being a “former” without all the demands and overwhelming security force. “He’s just enjoying life,” says one friend.”

Another one from Jeff and Jean. This time they make something called Pokie Salad with hamachi. Looks easy and delicious!

Bodylicious X and Bodylicious Y are pieces of ceramic plates made by the Japanese designer Hiroshi Tsunoda. It was according to his website inspired by Nyotaimori, a tradition where food is presented on the body of a naked woman (and much sought after here on SOD…).
Technically, this is not sushi since it does not include sweetened rice. It is more for those who want everything to be like sushi. The video shows you how to make bacon and egg looking like sushi.

I found some old comic strips of Wulffmorgenthaler that were sushi related. Apparently sushi was the it-food back in the days too. The other one is about angry fish. Use the links below to go to the strips in their original versions.

This exquisite Mediterranean sushi dish I found on a website called shiitakeblog.com, which again is part of a blog network called Tried, tasted, served. They focus on healthy, organic food and visiting their website just made me hungry. The photography there is also very inspiring. This “sushi dish” is very similar to “real” sushi in the way that it is presented yet has entirely different and unique flavors.

Episode #2 - Sushi Bar TV from Kevin Workman on Vimeo.
Episode #2 from our Sushi Bar TV guys. They still haven’t gotten their act properly together yet - being a bit goofy sometimes, but I have not seen an octopus being cut before. Interesting, but creepy animal…

Differentiate yourself, you know. Cook with your… dog! Yeah! CWD is a cooking show hosted by a DOG named Francis! The show currently focuses on how to make popular Japanese dishes. You can subscribe to it on YouTube. Dog aside - the tutorial is good and the sushi they make looks yummy.

New acronym - WYEMNBWYTYE - What you eat might not be what you think you eat….

“This is Jackie Chan at Shanghai G Sushi about to devour the World’s Largest Sushi Roll!” That is the only information I can find about the picture.

Sushi on a stick!?? Sort of popsickle sushi? Now, I did NOT expect that… This “amazing” product was announced on April 1st, so I did think it was a joke at first. But it doesn’t seem to be the case… Here is from their sales pitch;
“Delicious sushi is too good to be tied to a table and chopsticks. We’ve created a convenient way to enjoy sushi on the go. Sushi Popper is ready-to-eat sushi in a package that you will soon find in refrigerators in your local stores. Once you crack open the seal on the package, you can use the attached stick to push up the sushi roll from the bottom and bite off the presliced pieces of sushi from the top.
