Guest Review - London

Written by: Felix K., London

This restaurant, located in North London’s Camden Town, was long recommended to me by a friend and one warm day after work I jumped on the Northern Line and went up to Mornington Crescent to meet my friend and to check out this tip. One thing I instantly liked about the place was that it is not your standard stylish, hip and trendy sushi place with minimalistic interior and posh menus but a small (and a little shabby) family run restaurant. I was also amazed by the tight door they operated: I don’t recommend going there without a reservation.

We started with fresh seaweed salad (KAISOU), sliced beef (GYUNIKU TATAKI), deep fried tofu (AGEDASHI DOFU) and deep fried aubergine (NASO DENGAKU). The starters were all good and especially the salad and the beef are definitely recommended. We went to the place relatively early and by the time we had finished our starters the place had filled up - a cosy little place quite literally :).

For sushi we had avocado and tuna SAKAMAKI, EBITEM SAKAMAKI (deep fried king prawn), UNAGI NIGIRI (eel), IKURA NIGIRI (salmon roll) and MAGURO NIGIRI (tuna). The sushi was not served all at the same time but in two lots which was a bit disappointing as we had to finish the first lot before we were served the second … so there was less variety on the table. The food was presented nicely though and considering that they only had one sushi chef for the place we were served fairly quickly. The sushi was ok: the fish was decent but not very well cut and the rice good but it looked as if the chef had rushed a little to get the sushi done.

Summary:

Overall, this place is recommended: The staff is friendly and the place cosy and original. It seemed like we had caught a not so good day for sushi so I will go back sometime to check it out again. And at just over 50 pounds (for starters, drinks and A LOT of sushi for two) it was ok value for money too (you also get free green tea at the end).
