Nydalen is a bit unknown territory for me. It seems like a nice area, with lots of businesses and since the business school moved up there, they also get a lot of young kids wandering around, which makes the whole place feel like a happening place. We ventured up there to have lunch and try out “Eat Nydalen”, a viet-thai-sushi place… Did I hear sceptical? Yup. And founded.
This place is not run by Japanese and they have no respect for the Japanese food traditions. They have some of their stuff on the menu in Japanese, but get plain outright annoyed if you say you want unagi for eel, to mention an example.
We just came for lunch, so I ordered a couple of makis and a couple of nigiri sushi. Not that hungry. The feeling was quite clearly - don’t order much raw food from these guys. They have no clue what they are doing.
Sigh. Because this was just bad. The rice was mushed to pulp, the maki was not sticking together, the tea was awful, the salmon was so cold you felt that it just had been frozen, the the tempura maki was overcooked…
But the worst of the whole experience was the complete lack of service. Not only did they come and spread a general grumpyness when taking our order, they also tried to charge us more than we had ordered. Rude. I think that we put up with a lot of these kind of places, because we feel like they try so hard to do their best. Not so here. Could not and will not recommend it.
Summary:
The sushi was below mediocre and we got the worst service we have experienced in all of Oslo. Did we just find them on a bad day?

I totally agree with you. I went to Nydalen EAT for a snack after work, and I was not happy at all when I left with my friend. They came relatively fast with the menu, and took our order. We got the food quite fast too, and the sushi was ok, but no more. But when we finished, and as our plates were empty it was quite obvious that we were done, we were completely ignored! We wanted some dessert, but after we’d tried to establish eye contact with the staff and wave at them for 20 minutes, we no longer had the time. But we still had to wait another 10 minutes for no one to give us the bill. Eventually I went to the till and it took at least 3 minutes for them to give me any attention, even though they were standing right there. When I got some attention they just gave me the bill, I paid, and he almost didn’t give me my change. It was only 2 kroner, but I wasn’t leaving any more than I had to at that place. No tip from me, and no thank you and goodbye from them. I’m not going back there. Even though the food was ok, the sevice was horrible!
Må bare balansere all den negative kritikken her.
