We had a hard time to decide which sushi bar we should visit in Little Tokyo, and ended up at the Frying Fish. This turned out to be a guru-guru (kaiten) sushi place, with a really old looking and noisy system. From the belt you had to help yourself with wasabi and ginger, which was a great benefit for me, since I practically eat more ginger than sushi… (addicted and weird - according to my boyfriend). They were a bit cheap on the fish that actually were being served on the belt, hardly any fish came around. A lot of salads and edamame, but the fish were few and far between.
I guess they make more money from the fish you order, so I side ordered a California roll, a spider roll (soft shell crab) and something he called Palm Springs roll which consisted of eel, scallops and covered in ikura. The California roll and the spider roll were both very good! The Palm Springs that the sushi chef recommended to me, was on the other hand just too sweet and too rich in the end of a meal.
Summary:
A bit rugged around the corners, but pretty good food in an old guru-guru sushi bar!

WORST PLACE FOR SUSHI IN LITTLE TOKYO,SUSHI WAS NOT FRESH!
A fake posting in my name. Frying Fish was [is] the great introduction to sushi. If you don’t know how to order, you just grab a plate, or point at the menu tent. Frying Fish is elementary school for the sushi novice. Sure you can go to another store, but Frying Fish is best when you order off the menu…the tempura and the sweet shrimp heads.
