Sake

I find Sake labels very beautiful. I found an image from “The Book of Sake: A Connoisseur’s Guide” by Philip Harper that explains also how to read the sake labels. My Japanese is very elementary and my Sake experience not that thorough, so I needed a guide.

Sake Labels

Now - knowing how to read them you can fully enjoy this beautiful photo slideshow from a guy totally in love with sake! His looooong list of all of his favorite sakes I will return to in a later post. For now - labels. He says:

“I’m endlessly fascinated by sake labels, mostly because I find Japanese brush script extremely beautiful. Sake labels, especially for the highest-end sakes such as these are often printed on handmade paper and can resemble works of art in themselves. Of course, like wine labels, they can also be silly, funny, and even kitschy. For those who may prefer a slightly more aesthetic way of experiencing the tasting, I present my Flickr gallery of 180 sake labels, Enjoy.”
