There is a chain of sushi restaurants called Kabuki in California. They have restaurants in Burbank, Pasadena, Hollywood, Huntington Beach to mention a few. They say on their menu that they have the best sushi in town, so that did get our hopes up. We went there for lunch, and tried out just a few things from their quite extensive menu.
We ordered the tempura roll, spider roll (soft shell crab) and spicy tuna roll. All of them were just too big, but still not stuffed enough so that they sticked together. We did like the tempura roll. It was crunchy and had a nice texture to it. The rice was a bit too hard and not very sticky at all. The soft shell crab was just average and both that and the tuna roll were falling apart when eating them. The presentation was too slapdash.
Summary:
Quite average, but ok sushi. High expectations probably made me a harder critic. Things tasted a little too similar, and they have to get their maki skills together - so that they don’t fall apart when eaten.
