Le Meo Sushi Restaurant opened late in 2006, and I was thrilled to see a sushi bar opening up right next to my favorite coffee bar in Oslo, Evita. They took a loooong holiday in February, but they finally came back so that I could taste their goods. The restaurant is kind of a weird place. It feels more like a canteen than a restaurant with their plastic table cloths and cheap interior. Not a place for anything but eating and moving on, despite them now also serve beer. The place does not really invite you to hang out for long.
Their menu was actually quite extensive, and their fish looked fresh. I really was in a sashimi mood, but you had to order a medium or large sashimi menu to get that, so I just have to go back for that. I just ordered my regular tempura maki, in addition to a california maki, and salmon and scallops nigiri sushi. The scallops and salmon was soft and tasty and the size of it was ok for my taste.
I think that the rice was a bit too sticky on the makis. The tempura maki was ok, but not a favorite. The california maki was not that good and I think that the crab stick was unfrozen in the micro because it was a bit chewy in the ends. So I actually liked the nigiri sushis here better than the makis. Weird for me.
The green tea was for free, which was nice, but not really worth mentioning in regards to taste. The presentation of the food was - just ok. They would actually benefit from presenting the food not as compact, but maybe spread it onto more plates maybe?
There were not many people there, but I hope they have enough to stay open. The owners seems like really nice people, and they sounded like they had a good time behind the counter. I am just glad that we finally have a sushibar in the neighborhood. Then I can put up with the kitsch interior and overly sticky rice, just to keep them there. Maybe they will get better… I will go back to see.
Summary:
The neighborhood sushi place, where you go for a late night snack.

How did you like Le Meo - Grønland, Oslo

I’d like to add that they’re nice enough to also serve different kinds of vegetarian sushi
and you never have to worry about not getting a seat, so if you’re a big bunch of people who desperately needs sushi and don’t have a lot of cash, this is a good place to go.
