Lutefisk sush??i! Yuck is my initial reaction. Lutefisk is something we in Norway eat for xmas, and consists of a vile looking, soda lye treated salted/dried white fish. I don’t care for it much. (I guess my Norwegian passport will be taken from me now… :). I understand it is also quite popular in all the Nordic countries in addition to North America and Canada. And obviously Minnesota.
Because “Lutefisk sushi” here is the name of an annual Minnesotan cartoonist tradition. They have a community of cartoonists who every year or two have this event where they are to create a one-of-a-kind mini-comic. Each artist prints up to 150 copies, and each copy goes in a hand-silkscreened bento box that is stuffed with more comics and sold.
The explanation for why it is called Lutefisk sushi is - sushi because of the small size (bite-size versions of fifty cartoonists) and Lutefisk because every cartoonist in the box is a Minnesotan.
They don’t seem to be as into actual sushi as we are, but I still fell for the name. A search in Google on Lutefisk sushi gives you lots of images from the events. It looks like fun!
