Across the street from the Coronet Theater on La Cienega, there is a sushibar called Mubee. We were actually going to see Eddie Izzard at that theater! Unfortunately he did not do his “Cake or Death“-skit that this websites name was inspired by, but he still was incredibly funny. I love that guy. Well - food. So Mubee was just there, and it happened to be a very pleasant surprise!
It was quite empty when we arrived (late) so we got the chef’s full attention. He did not have a very Japanese sushi chef style, being as he was much gentler in his ways. That have it’s charm as well. We asked him for his recommendations, and tried out the fish he picked out for us. I was not too fond of the mackerel, but the yellowtail, the eel and the rainbow maki and tempura maki were all fantastic! We ended with their “Sexy roll”, which consists of tuna, crab meat, avocado and fish eggs, rolled in cucumber skin was both a pleasure to watch him make and eat!
I liked their menu in that they have a lot of modern variations of sushi. After focusing on finding very old style sushi here for a week, it was nice to see a modern and improvising chef. The presentation of the food here were really great.
Summary:
A good and friendly sushibar to get modern sushi, and where you might happen to run into celebrities. We saw one!
