Is Obama into sushi? For real? I know I posted this mock article back in the presidential race - a story from The NY Times showing the different candidates view on “sushi politics” in The candidates spin the sushi. I so want to link Obama to sushi, because I find it absolutely awesome that he is now the president in the US!
My son and husband are Americans so we were watching the inauguration on Tuesday almost with tears in our eyes. I think Barack Obama is going to be a great president! Not only for the US, but for all of us. I did actually manage to pin him to sushi. Here are the things that I managed to find! ![]()
Obama sushi art
The best one I could find were sushi art made by an instructor at Tokyo Sushi Academy in Tokyo, Japan. Obama as Kazari maki-zushi!
He really is creating a stir all over the world, and even inspire sushi instructors to create something like this. I would love to see my head as a kazari maki-zushi! I wonder if there is a video of the making of this? That would be amazing to see. This is sushi art!
(Added Feb 18 2009) I found a description of how to make this atMSN Japan.
Fantastic and fun!

Make your own Obama roll
The website “Not eating out in New York” was back in 2008 going back and forth between Hillary and Barack, and made them sushi rolls in their honor. A good way of dealing with your political doubts, I say. So here’s the one for Obama.
“In the spirit of his snatching up the delegates and inspiring crowds that rival those of rock ‘n roll shows, I’ve rolled up some crispy fried eggplant and fresh spinach in this veggie maki-zushi roll.”

Find the recipe for the obama roll here >>
Obama eats spam musubi
But does the president really eat sushi? Of course he does, and as the native Hawaiian he is - he eats their local sushi version… yummy spam sushi…
Well - I have never had it, so it might be delicious.

I know that SushiDay have previously had a recipe for Spam musubi >> (it is not called sushi because you not making it with sushi rice) on her website - so I should try make it. We should all try it. If it is good enough for Barack, then it is good enough for us, huh?
Obama roll in a restaurant
Another “Obama Roll” you can get at Asia Nine - a restaurant in Washington DC. They created sushi rolls ($8) for each candidate (Obama and McCain with running mates) back when there was still a race. I guess now Obama and Biden are the only ones left on the menu…
Obama’s roll contains asparagus, cucumber, avocado, radish sprout and basil leaves dusted with sesame seeds. Biden’s features local crabmeat, cucumber and wasabi cream sauce. Tried finding images of them, but couldn’t.

Obama, Japan
Another place they are also celebrating the Obama win is in… Obama, a sea-side town of Fukui Prefecture in Japan.
“Town leaders hope the international fame generated by their support will translate into increased business opportunities, and local merchants are already selling Obama Burgers, Obama sushi rolls (called Victory Wraps) and other products with the president-elect’s face stamped on them.”

Great to see you blogging again! But how is your son American? American-Norwegian perhaps? I wish Oslo’s sushi joints would make Obama rolls
So glad to see the link between Obama and sushi, even if it is just with rolls so far. Maybe we will get the chance to witness him actually partaking in the delicious stuff. By the way, I would love to share this post on my blog, http://www.sushiloversunite.com. Would you mind sharing the post if I give proper credit? MakiMom@sushiloversunite.com.
@Eva - thanks! It’s great to know that there are someone out there actually reading this, and it is great to be back. About Timo, my little angel, he is definitely half Norwegian as well. He is almost as American as Obama I guess, except he is born abroad so he can’t run for president… Oh well.
@MakiMom - thanks for the link. And the visit. I see the post is up there now. Checking your feed on a regular basis now, so keep blogging.
