This small sushi place has a very central location, just off of Karl Johans gate - the main street of Oslo. I used to go to it years ago when it was called Tampopo but I had not been back after it became Oishi Sushi. The fact that is resides in Skippergata might scare some customers away though.
This is mostly a take out place, it is not very intimate or romantic, it only have seats for a couple of people and the view is looking out at the drug addicts on the streets. (In a way that actually gives you a bit of perspective in life and you do realize you could do much worse…)
Well. Food. Oishi Sushi does not have my tempura shrimp maki, but they had maki with regular shrimp and avocado which is ok. We had some scallops, tuna and salmon maki as well and with green tea and lots of gari - well, we got full and happy. The service is great. He is a charming man, which actually gave us an extra maki for free! When does that happen? We definately will go back.
If you are looking for a lunch menu - they have several bento boxes, which you will find described on their website.

How did you like Oishi Sushi - Sentrum, Oslo?

I didn’t really like this place. The Location is a bit dodgy and the food is just very, well, dull.
In a sudden act of desperate ”I need sushi NOW”, I went to Oishi Sushi yesterday and bought the largest take away menu they had, the Bento 3 (was a bit embarrassed when he put 2 pairs of chopsticks into the bag..).
The maki and the salmon were suprisingly good. The Escolar (butterfish) was a bit stringy and I’ve tasted better scallops. But overall – an nice meal.
Very good service and the making of sushi was very quick. I wouldn’t take my husband out for a romantic dinner here, but for the busy, hungry sushi-eater it’s quite ok. Or simply for a quick take-away after work, like I did.
But remember – Oishi Sushi takes only cash.
