Bloomberg.com - Hong Kong Sushi Shop Pays Record Price for Tuna
Photo from Antique Fishing Reels

They are getting scarce, so the ones that are for sale I guess will be really expensive. A Hong Kong sushi shop paid a record $55,700 for a bluefin tuna the other day in the first auction of 2008 at the Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market, Agence France-Presse reported. Not very promising in regards to people stop fishing them…
The 276-kilogram (607-pound) tuna was sold for 22,000 yen ($202) a kilogram, AFP said, citing an official at the fish market whom it didn’t identify and local media reports. The purchase price was a record for Japan, the report said, citing the official.
I say it again. Stop eating it.
Then they might stop fishing it.

There is so much money in China/HK these days. This news does not surprise me. A sad day for the tuna.
Yeah, I know. It is really sad. So all of us should stop ordering it. Thanks for visiting! I love your site! It makes me long for Tokyo.
