We were not going to this place had it not been for that Soho was closed that day. Ahh, what luck! It caused us to find a gem!! The restaurant opened last year, but moved to also use downstairs around April of 2007. We were pretty alone in there for our Sunday lunch, but if they keep up their good work, I am sure this place will be packed. It was a real treat!
We all love tempura maki - and these guys had several of them. They had a separate sushi menu with special maki, deep fried maki and regular nigiri sushi, sashimi and maki.
The service here was great. We felt welcome and wanted from the minute we came in, and showing interest in the place we even got an offer to see the upstairs restaurant even though it was not open yet. We then ordered food and drinks and after a short while we get a free starter from the chef. Salmon and halibut in the chefs own ponzu tasting sauce. Mmmm. Delicious.
You eat with your eyes first…
Everything we had was just absolutely delicious. Lots of different tempura rolls, soft shell crab, wonderful rainbow rolls, amazing unagi and scampiroll… Not only did it all taste good, but you could feel that the chef was concerned with how it was presented too. “You eat with your eyes first” he told us when we praised him after a beautiful meal. So true and beautifully put! We all got full. Red Sun for me competes with the best of sushi places in Norway. I have another favorite sushi place!

We have definitely got ourselves a new favourite sushi place here in Bergen!! I cannot believe we haven’t tried this place before! The friendly waitress, the cute chef and not the least the delicious and beautifully presented sushi made it a great lunch

Absolutely the best sushi place in Bergen - maybe also in Norway…
Everything is fresh and the chefs are great.
Strongly recommended. PS! They have great authentic vietnamese food too.

I dont know if anyone noticed that all Chefs that worked there before quited
now only chubby owner is making his ”not delicious ‘’sushi with his dirty hands
this guy is going straight from talking on his mobile in front of customers to ”making sushi”
touching fish like its pice of bread
ask him how long he’s been making sushi and where did he learn..
I can tell u now …
first he learned from internet and his uncle in states (that runs some Vietnamese shit hole)
second good stuff he learned from Ricky - ex. head chef of nama
and he’s been making sushi for around 1 year
its more than patethic sushi and silly guy
now he’s making sushi with his wife cuz noone wanna work for him
and btw I even heard his wife talking to the stuff
that she made a mistake marrying him but well…
now its too late- u know they are Catholic

I’ve found myself a new favourite sushi place in Bergen!! It used to be Nama but not any longer… Yes, Red Sun really is a gem and I’m so sorry that I didn’t explore it sooner!
We went there for Saturday lunch recently, and the service was immediate, perfect and pleasant, just as in more expensive restaurants. We ordered one of the mixed sushi & sashimi menus - and what glory!! It looked delicious and tasted delicious - it felt as if we were in heaven
I told the waiter after the meal how pleased we were and that we’ll come back soon, and he just replied with a cute smile “I know…”

On two occations I have had the pleasure of eating and being entertained at the Red Sun Sushi bar.
Last on 20th of May being warmed by sunshine from outside and warm velvety sake from the inside! Next a combination of sashimi, maki and sushi accompanied by the house white wine.
