I have started buying cook books on how to make sushi at home. It is a lot of fun, and the books have helped me immensely. I read them sometimes to get a certain recipe, but a lot of the time I read it just as eye candy. As if my wasabi urge is being taken care of. Sort of.
Well – here are a some books that have helped me:
The complete book of sushi
I love this book. It has fantastic pictures, great recipes and always gives me something new to focus on. Reading it, I get really inspired and have to make myself (and my unfortunate boyfriend who is about to reach his sushi limit) some maki rolls. It really was a perfect book for me as a beginner, but I can see that quite fancy recipes that are served at some of the best sushi places around town, also are found here. It is my favourite so far!
Sushi
This book is written by a sushi chef that lives in London. it was my first book, so I pretty much read all of it. It is fascinating to read about the journey to become a sushi chef. It has a lot of information about how to cut fish from - well, alive to sushi condition. How to serve up Octopus fresh is not something I see myself ever in need of knowing, but it was fun to read. This book is for the beginning sushi lover even though some of it might be a bit hard. The pictures and recipes and descriptions are great.
The encyclopedia of sushi rolls
I love making maki, so when I got this book as a present I was thrilled. This book covers futomaki, hosomaki, temaki, uramaki and what was new to me - kazarimaki (decorative rolls). I have not been able to make much in regards to these decorative rolls yet, it takes a lot of time, but will come back with more on this. It looks like a lot of fun. A fantastic book!
Those are my three recommendable books. So far. But I am on a sushi quest, so I know there will be more. : )
