Sushi&Wok at Aker Brygge used to be called East Sushi and Noodles I believe. I have been at their other restaurant at Majorstua several times which I quite like, and had high hopes for dinner. Especially their tempura maki and their brown rice tea is usually quite a treat. This restaurant even has a sushi bar about four people can sit at. Will have to try that next time.
We ordered both a sushi menu, and a sushi combo meal. The combo had my necessary tempura maki, and the combo had tuna, salmon, shrimp, halibut and red clam.
The tea was not like at the other place. At all. It came in a regular tea cup with a tea holder in it, and did not taste like I wanted it to. The tempura maki was good. Crunchy and just how I like it, except for that they were falling apart and even though this was an ura maki (rice on the outside), the nori was highly visible.
The red clam I am not too fond of, mostly because of the way it also was served here - incredibly chewy, to the extent that it almost got nauseating. But the salmon, the shrimp, the tuna and the halibut was quite ok, and we did have a nice time. I still wish that they would have put more effort into making it look good too. It was sloppy handwork. I don’t like that in a sushi place.
So the preparation of our meal was not that good. They seemed to have lots to do, but still - I need to have my makis not fall apart and the presentation to be interesting. They have a prime location, and should do better!
Summary:
Prefer the Majorstua Sushi & Wok to this one. It is in a good location, but I would rather go to Nippon Art if I was in the area and wanted sushi.
