Sushihuset - Carl Berners Plass, OsloHave I said it before? That I am so tired of bad sushi?

I guess part of the reason why I will not give this place a good review is because I have had a lot of sushi lately. Good sushi. And also great experiences. Here - I greeted them, asked them what they would recommend of todays fish, trying to give this “once a hamburger joint now turn sushi bar” a chance. Mostly because it came recommended. Well, according to the chef, everything was especially good that day, and they could not recommend anything in particular… Hmm. No help there. But - the fish did look quite fresh, so I tried some nigiri of salmon, eel and halibut, together with my tempura maki.

This is a fast food joint. I don’t like fast food sushi anymore. This (human) experiment I am doing with trying out all the sushi bars in Oslo, makes my body go “Get me out of here!” just by entering these places. Mostly I think it was the rice. I did not like their sweet/sour, a bit too hard sushi rice at all. Their fish was quite good and the tempura shrimp crunchy. And they served genmaicha. But overall - no. Not my kind of place.

This place has followers, so they might have had just a bad sushi rice day for them. Making good sushi rice is really hard, I know, but I don’t feel like paying for peoples trying and failing attempts. The website says that the restaurant is owned and run by the Vietnamese chef Ho Si Tuan, together with his family and friends, which shows also in the way the place is decorated and the type of music played. This place and it’s food is just not Japanese.

An awfull place; tried it twice. Mediocre fish, strange rice and small portions. The other time my partner went sick after eating there - never again!

The first time I ate there (just after it opened) the fish tasted like caviar :(
But the next summer I tried it again, after someone persistently saying this was the best sushiplace in the area. and it was a much better experience this time, the fish was great, but overall it wasn’t good enough to make me come back.

I live in the area and has eaten at sushi huset many times. From my experience this place has the best sushi around in the local area around carl berner. Most often the fish is really fresh and tasty and the rice is balanced, it is sticky enough and is not to sweet. From the review, I get the impression that the author thinks this place has been a hamburger or kebab-joint before, which what I recall is incorrect.

I think they’re closed now. They closed at Easter, supposedly for the week, but I don’t think they’ve re-opened. Good thing. I went in to order take-out, and the sushi chef had a really bad cold or the flu. He looked very ill and was sniffling and wiping his nose on his sleeve while cutting sushi! This is not the guy I want handling my raw fish!!!

The sushi was always decent for take-away, but after seeing that I could never go back anyway.
