Sushisi
Creating a new product is exciting - and a lot of hard work. Sushisi has been a product in the makings for a couple of years, but is now getting closer to a store near you… I got to be there when they launched their product in Norway a couple of weeks back. The inventors, Nayoung Chung Mathiesen and Anne Gro Johansen has developed what is called Sushisi - and they are rolling out their product right now. Sushisi is a sushi set that contains ready made rice, sushi vinegar, cut fish, ginger, wasabi and plastic gloves in the nigiri sets and the same plus nori for the maki set.

There are a couple of similar products on the market in the States but not in Norway and I have not found anyone else in Europe. This will be a sushi kit similar to the beloved taco kit (Norwegians eat a lot of Mexican food!), and I think this is too is going to be a hit! It does make it a bit easier for people who doesn’t have sushi making equipment already. The box comes with instructions and photos to tell you how to do it in detail. I was skeptical in that the rice was already cooked and then frozen to be reheated it in the microwave, because I hate microwave food! We did get to taste it, and even though it was not gourmet sushi, it was quite good, and I do think it is a great alternative to frozen pizza and taco kits.

When I was watching them make it, I also kept on thinking of that I was glad I know how to make it proper… I love my bamboo mat. I love fussing with always trying to make the rice better than last time. A representative from the Japanese embassy was there, and I really was wondering what he was thinking of trying to also make sushi into fast food… I guess that is my biggest issue with it. That we are always trying to make everything into fast food.

But kudos for doing this and it looks like it is a success. Go girls! I forgot to ask about price come to think of it. Well, I will have to try one out myself I guess. It is already available in some Seven Eleven, Deli de Luca and a few grocery stores from November on.

    Hi,
I would love to get in touch with the author of the article above on the launching of SUSHISI - the sushi kit. I cannot find the email address, but would like to get in touch. Perhaps it is clear from this that I am not familiar with blogging…..
