There are two Taro restaurants in London and both are located near China Town (one in Old Compton Street and the other one in Brewer Street). This time we went out for food for one of my housemate’s birthday and we opted for the Old Compton Street branch. The restaurant is spacious, has a simple but comfortable interior and because of its location in Soho you get a very diverse clientele there.
The menu has a lot to offer – it actually calls itself a Sushi Noodle Bar – and I had a hard time trying to convince my friends to order Sushi. In the end we ordered a variety of dishes including Miso soup and several styles of Ramen, Bento Boxes and Sushi.
The Bento Boxes are great: I tried the Salmon Teryaki one which includes a lot of rice, Nigri (salmon and prawn), Sashimi (tuna and salmon) and tuna/avocado Maki. All very tasty and definitely enough for a hungry person.
The mixed Sushi are also recommendable: You get 7 pieces of Nigri and 4 pieces of Maki which this time included tuna, salmon, prawn, snapper, squid and octopus. The fish was fresh and nicely cut. Oh, and the Wasabi there is very (!) hot.
The Ramen were nice but didn’t cause tears of joy amongst my fellow dinner companions. All in all a recommendable place though with good value for money. And to survive through awkward silences: there is the restaurant history to read on the back of the menus.
Summary:
All in all a recommendable place though with good value for money.

Silly question, but do they serve actual ramen? As in noodels in a large bowl of soup with bean sprouts, chashyuu and pork? I always miss that when I’m outside of Japan…
Hey there, JanBanan. I love your nick! I did not write this review, but I will check with Felix. Maybe he knows. Thanks for visiting!
