“The Sushi Pack” for priming your kids!

Sushi is good. Sushi is great! Now they are also super heroes. The cartoon series “Sushi Pack” from American Greetings Properties is going to be shown on the American TV-channel CBS targeting the audience between 9-11 year olds. And me. Is this a big sushi conspiracy? To prep your kids as the future sushi eaters?

“Sushi Pack centers on five crime-fighting pieces of sushi that protect Wharf City from over-the-top diabolical villains. The humorous and action-packed television treatment was written by Tom Ruegger and Nicholas Hollander, the Emmy Award-winning writers/producers behind such hits as Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures and Pinky and the Brain. British-born Rick Adams (a.k.a. DJ Rick), best known for hosting gigs on CBS’ Dance Revolution and AOL.com, voices the character Tako. The show features educational and pro-social messages created in consultation with a renowned child development expert.”

The good guys are the salmon, tuna, crab, octopus and wasabi, while the bad guys are the fatty tuna, the eel, the frozen green tea ice cream, sea urchin and the blowfish - all lead by the evil sushi chef who is a mean cat fish. It looks really funny! The brief introduction that we get from the website made me want to watch it. There were quotes like “but he’s not even real sushi - he is a condiment” which makes the fiery, but also very sensitive wasabi run away… I think “The Sushi Pack” might be the best sushi in the neighborhood… :) Here is a brief description of the good guys:

Maguro maki touch tuna - who is the sushi packs spiritual guru. She is In tune with her inner tuna and tries to guide the others in higher forms of meditation. Her special power is her intense concentration and focus.

The ikura maki fearless salmon is a hot head with a short fuse, who’s always ready at a moments notice. He’s small, but he makes up in bravery what he lacks in size - except when it comes to bears. His special powers are that he can shoot sticky salmon balls.

Kani maki crabby crab is a klutzy queen crab who is always well, crabby. She’s thick-sknned and hard -shelled and ready to use her pinchers when confronted by an enemy. Her special power is the pinch.

The tako maki artsy octopus is a complex, charming and artistic octopus. He is a suffering, frustrated misunderstood sushi who uses his ink-squirting capabilities for the peaceful expression of art. His special power is that he can shoot multi-colored ink!

And then we have Wasabi pow super hottie. The smalles member of the pack - a fiery glob of cuddly spice that doesn’t speak. Despite his stunted stature, he is a powerhouse - albeit a cute one! His special power is that he can throw fireballs of hot wasabi mustard. Of course.

The Sushi Packs enemies - “The legion of low tide”

The legion of low tide

Toro - a very strong fatty tuna who doesn’t have lot of going on upstairs. He’s strong but gullible and usually ends up following the lead of others.

Unagi is a mutated electric eel packs enough voltage to curl the hair on a statue. He’s a slimy savage with an eye for detail.

Mochi mochiato - a frozen ball of rice-coated ice cream who freezes her enemies in their tracks. She might be candy-coated but she’s as cold as ice.

Uni is an unstoppable sea urchin with a talent for scheming evil plots. He’s one of the biggest threats to the sushi pack because he is seemingly indestructible

Fugu - a blowfish that has the ability to puff himself up many times his size. He’s dead-set on doing no good and often uses his power to escape when caught.

Titanium chef - where there’s a bad sushi, there’s a bad sushi chef. He’s one mean catfish who not only orders the Legion of Low Tide to fight dirty and scheme evil plots, he also manages the sushi bar where they live.

A great way of making your kids love (and I guess hate) sushi, huh?
