The worlds longest sushi roll
29Jul07

About 1,300 people participated, both young and old in “Top of Japan jumbo paste tuna roll rally”. The maki was a tekka maki (Tuna roll) and consisted of 240 kg of big eye tuna, 490 kg of sushi rice 490, 2,020 sheets of nori and as mentioned - 1,300 people, young and old did the deed. Fantastic! I have a problem rolling them with only me involved…
Important to know if you are planning a record:
- It is found that 1 m of suhsi roll requires almost or more than 1 kg of cooked sushi rice, or 455 g of dry grain rice, which is converted by 2.2 times to cooked rice in weight, or 1.33 times in volume.
- A 5 cm, 2 inches diameter of the roll, with ingredients, is the specification for the Guinness Record.
- 1 sheet of nori seaweed, 19 x 21 cm or 7.5 x 8.3 inches, can roll 6 cm, 2.3 inches diameter of futo-maki (thick roll), and a half sheet can 2.5 cm, 1 inch diameter of hoso-maki (thin roll) sushi rolls.
- 1 foot (ft) = 12 inches = 30.48 cm; 1 pound (lb.) = 0.4536 kg
