I have tried to make a map over all the places I know where to get sushi in Oslo. By clicking on the map marker you get the name of the place and a link to the post that gives you some more information about our experience with it.

If you know of any good restaurants that we missed out on, it would be great if you would contribute with your own review.

  1. I’ve been to just about all of these sushi bars as well. And I can say for almost certain, that most of the reviews and gradings here are pretty much in line with my experience as well.

    Great job! Keep it up.

    And I love Thai-food too!

  4. What a great collection - thanks for sharing. I just love shushi and living in Oslo, this is such a nice overview!

  5. I am glad you like it! I love sushi too - as you might have gathered… :) I have still a long way to go covering all of Oslo, but I will do it!! Thank you for your visit and come back soon. If you have similar or contrary experiences with the restaurants in Oslo, please share!

My friend and I are going to tomorrow to try sushi! and I was wondering if you could help me find a place which is cheap, but still has good sushi. We are students and… yeah poor! :P thanks for the tip about Nodee… I will go there sometime =D

  7. You get both good quality and good price at Sushi House in Sporveisgata. Take a look here:
Sushi House - Majorstua It is not the perfect place to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, but there are a couple of chairs. Try their Sushi House (239 NOK - but for two) menu which has 8 sushi (2 salmon, 2 halibut, 2 tuna, 2 butterfish). 16 Sashimi (4 salmon, 4 scallops, 4 tuna og 4 butterfish) and a really yummy Tempura-Futo maki (8 pieces). Great for two to share!

Kitty Sushi is also reasonable and ok sushi, same is Japo Sushi in Frognerveien.

Hope you do get to have good sushi when you trying it out for the first time!
    Itadakemasu!

hi kari, whats your tip for best sushiplace in town, and i’m thinking about the sushi itself. the service can be mediocre :)

    (rice is important!) ;)

  10. Tom - my tip for the best sushi bars in town are:

Nodee, Alex Sushi, Nippon Art and Cosmo Thai & Sushi are now on my top 3 list of “sit down restaurants”, while Sushi House in Sporveisgata, Sushi & Wok in Majorstua and Kitty’s Sushi are my top 3 favorite “take away places”.

I hope you find a good one and that the rice is to your liking. If liked (or disliked) some of them or found someplace else - come back and tell us about it! :)

Hi. Have you tried Sushi of life? Its a great take-out place. There are to places, i have only ordered take out at the one in VIka. This one is really small, but they are renewing the place now so i guess its getting bigger. The restaurant in Briskeby is probably more suitable for enjoying the food there.

    Good site!

Im glad pregnant women can eat sushi now:):)

Hai Sushi is excellent, I totally agree but another place to try is Mr. Tang (Seilduksgata/Markvn) - excellent sushi, sashimi and Korean food.

  15. @Benny Ta & LindaF - I will have to go to Hai Sushi now. Thank you for your tip! Keep them coming!

    Hei,

    Hi,

I am on a hunt for the best sushi take-away place in Oslo, having recently moved from New York where you can seriously find some of the worlds best sushi. So first of all thanks for this fantastic sushi map!! Makes it much easier when the longing starts kicking in!

Now, unfortunately I have to say that I have been quite disappointed with some of the places that have been recommended here. Both House of Sushi (Majorstua) and Sushi House (Sporveisgata) had very bad quality fish which was tough to chew. If you dont have good consistency, then you cant really call it good sushi - irrespective of the price (although House of Sushi was quite pricy). Also, the Sushi at Sushi House was decorated with sesame seeds - looked good but it really kills the fresh taste of the fish….

Then I tried Sushi and Thai Mat in Torsov, which was significantly better. Clean place, good size and consistency, a bit too mushy rice and it didnt really taste much. But although it was better than the previous two it was absolutely mediocre by New York standards.

Tonight is another sushi night - perhaps this time a true pearl is revealed!

  19. @Hans - Thanks for your tip. Will take a drive to Asker one day. Or maybe you would like to write a guest review? :) Thanks for visiting!

@Cecilie - Thanks for your comment! It must be hard coming from NY being used to lots of fantastic sushi and then have to settle with “Oslo standard”… Every time we go to LA almost all the sushi bars are japanese run and absolutely amazing and then coming home to the mediocrity of both fish, rice AND craftsmanship of the (mostly) sushi wanna-be-chefs here…

Very sorry to hear that you were not happy about Sporveisgata, (btw you should write that as a comment on the Sushi House-post, it might make the people running it get their act together. I know they read this blog… :) House of Sushi (Majorstua) we completely slaughtered here, so that was not by my recommendation at least. :)

I think my favorite take-out sushi places are (right now pr. Feb 2009):

  20. Sushi House, Sporveisgata
  21. Sushi & Thaimat, St.Hanshaugen
  22. Grand sushi - above Carl Berners Plass (Trondheimsveien)
  23. Sakana sushi i Prinsensgate I have had some positive experiences with, but also gotten some bad fish there, so it varies I guess.

I have not been to Sushi and Thai Mat in Torshov. Maybe you want to write a guest review? I will be going there at some point too. Let us know when you find your favorite place!
